Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MP

Rt Hon Margaret Hodge is the Member of Parliament for Barking and Dagenham. Margaret’s family settled in London after World War 2 and she was educated at Bromley High School, Oxford High School and the London School of Economics where she obtained a BSc Economics. She worked in market research from 1966-73. From 1992 to 1994, she was a senior consultant for Price Waterhouse.

Margaret was elected as a councillor in the London Borough of Islington in 1973 and subsequently became chairman of the Housing Committee. She was council leader from 1982 – 1992. Margaret has been the member for Barking since 1994 and has held a number of Ministerial positions including responsibility for Universities, Children and Work. Under the Brown Government she was Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. She was appointed to the Privy Council in 2003.

Margaret has been married twice and has four children and one grandchild.
