Lord Haskel

Lord Haskel has had a number of positions in the House of Lords. He was opposition Spokesperson for Trade and Industry 1994-97; Opposition Whip 1994-97; Government Whip 1997-98; Government Spokesperson for: Social Security 1997-98, Trade and Industry 1997-98, the Treasury 1997-98; Deputy Chair of Committees 2002-; and Deputy Speaker 2002.

Lord Simon Haskel has also served as officer to a number of other All-Party Groups, such as Vice-chair: Management Group (2002-), Export Group (2003-); Treasurer Social Enterprises Group (2006-) and Vice-chair Taxation Group (2007-).

He was a founder Member, Labour Party Industry 1972 Group and Secretary 1976-81; He was chair of the Labour Finance and Industry Group 1990-96

He was raised to the peerage as Baron Haskel, of Higher Broughton in the County of Greater Manchester 1993

Lord Haskel joined Perrotts Ltd in 1961 and became chairman of Perrotts Group PLC and associated companies 1973-97. He now serves as President, Environment Industries Commission (2000-); served as International President, Textile Institute (2002-05); and Hon. President Materials UK (2006-). He is a trustee of the Smith Insitute.

Lord Haskel was education as Sedbergh school and Salford College of Advanced Technology. Her received an Honorary Doctorate from Bolton University in 2007. He married Carole Lewis in 1962 and has 2 children. He enjoys music and cycling.
